Complimentary Lunch and Learn event:
"Non-Suicidal Self Injury (Cutting) in Adolescents: What it is, Why people do it, and How to treat it"
Please join us as Bennett Silver, MD, noted child and adolescent psychiatrist and NAA Board member, explores the puzzling phenomenon of non-suicidal adolescent self- injury. While most people strive to avoid pain and injury, these adolescents inflict harm on their bodies repeatedly. This behavior is most prevalent among teenagers and is often a reason why educational and health professionals refer to psychiatrists and emergency rooms for evaluation. Dr. Silver will explore the causes, diagnostic issues and treatments for this ever increasing behavior amongst students.
Bennett Silver, MD is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and one of New Jersey’s most noted child and adolescent psychiatrists with over thirty years of experience. He completed a psychiatric residency and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Dr. Silver is currently the Director of Psychiatry Residency Training at Bergen Regional Medical Center, New Jersey’s largest training program for young psychiatrists.
Over the years he has served as Medical Director of child and adolescent inpatient units, intensive outpatient programs, chemical dependency programs, residential services and numerous psychiatric agencies throughout New Jersey.
A frequent speaker to community and professional organizations, Dr. Silver has been a consultant to numerous school districts. He is the editor of three national publications for physicians dealing with psychiatric diagnosis, psychotherapy and the use of psychotropic medication in children, adolescents and adults. The Castle Connolly Guide has named him as one of the top doctors in the NY Metro Region, and Inside Jersey Magazine as a Top Doctor for Kids.
Please come and meet Dr. Silver for an enlightening afternoon with ample opportunity for discussion and questions.
